TUMBLEWEED III TRAVELS

March 2009

Let the madness begin....

March 9th....Happy Birthday, Marisa!!!

I finally finished Paige's quilt.  It took a long time to do because I had to find just the right fabric.  She had a fabric she liked and I used that as my base.  There wasn't enough to use as a border but I used it in three long strips.  I tried to find more of the fabric but it was always sold out whereever I went.
I found fabric with music, shoes, hats, mirrors, faces, stars, etc. for the small strips.  I wanted to put some of her personality in the quilt.  She wanted black, white and hot pink as her colors.  The border is black and white with what I named dance costumes but is actually slips, bras, bloomers, etc.  Undergarmets!  It really added the final touch to the quilt.  The back material is black and hot pink with a black binding.  The picture I took is crooked but you get the idea.  The final thing was putting a label on the back with our names and the year it was made plus a picture of her dancing.  Now it's on to starting a quilt for Brett.  Jessica is painting her bedroom the colors of the quilt I made her last October.  If you remember it was greens and oranges.  I'm sure it will be great.

On the 2nd, I came home from the grocery store and saw a bundle of white fur in the gravel.  Being the curious person I am I stopped and checked it out.  It was a baby owl.  I called Skip and he came out and put it in a box.  He did not touch it; he used a palm branch to move it into the box.  There were a lot of black birds and crows circling above.  I know they were hoping they had a fresh lunch but we beat them and saved the baby.  After making several calls, I was able to locate an organization about 15 miles out of Modesto that would take it in and take care of it.  Skip drove the owl down there and they gave him a case number so he could call and check on it.  They also banned it and will release it once it is able to care for itself.  I believe they may bring it back up here and release it.  The owls live in the palm trees out here.  Of course, I had to take a picture.  Ugly but cute at the same time.

Elk of the Year for 2008-09

Skip & Charlie

The first Wednesday of every month the Elks lodge has a family night dinner.  This one on the 4th was corn beef and cabbage...one of my favorites!  We didn't realize that there would be awards given by the Exalted Ruler Charlie.  He has served in this position since last April 1st.  It has been a good year for everyone.  Charlie gave several awards and then came to the Elk of the Year Award.  We were so happy when he gave the award to Skip.  This is the second highest award with the highest one being Officer of the Year.  It is quite an honor.  Skip has worked hard and really deserves the award.
