Central Park, Tavern on the Green, Shopping...

Sue at Tavern On The Green

July 10th we decided to walk the few blocks to Central Park.  It was one of the hottest and most humid days that we had experienced in a long time.  We strolled down 75th Street and onto central park parkway,  past the Dakota where John Lennon was murdered.  Then it was into Central Park.  The only traffic allowed into the park where we entered is foot traffic, horse and carriages and service vehicles.  It was a nice leisurely but warm walk.  We came upon The Tavern On The Green restaurant and decided to go in and look around...plus use the restrooms.  When we got in there, I decided we would celebrate our Birthdays with lunch here.  Of course, the fact that our Birthdays were in April didn't matter to us.  The restaurant is so elegant and one of those places you just have to see if you come to NY.  The chandeliers and glass etched walls are absolutely beautiful.  Julie had pasta and I had chicken.  The food was okay but the surroundings were beautiful.  The prices are high but I knew this since I checked out the menu on the internet before we left CA.

After our "trendy" lunch we headed back to the hotel.  We walked through the park and avoided going back to the street as long as possible.  We watched dog walkers walking 4 to 6 dogs at a time and we saw lots of Nanny's pushing the children around in strollers.  We strolled down the path walking under beautiful arched stone bridges.  Finally, we came upon the street and decided to take it.  We walked past the Museum of Natural History.  We turned when we got to 81st street and stopped and bought some much needed water.  We walked down the residential areas and I took a couple pictures of the buildings.  We headed to 80th Street where we went to Zabar's Market and a bagel store.  Zabar's is a unique market of fresh fruit and vegetables plus lots of different smoked meats.  I was able to buy some polish lunch meat (Krakaw) there.   Julie found a children's shop where she came across some wonderful bargains for Kennedy.  I checked my voicemail and found that Paula would be arriving an hour early so I left Julie at the shop and I walked back to the hotel Beacon on Broadway at 74th.

Julie returned to the hotel with a bag full of clothes for Kennedy.  Paula arrived and then we got ready for the theatre.  Paula had gotten 2 tickets to the off Broadway production of Gypsy with Patti LuPone.  We caught the subway and attended the play.  It was fantastic.  After the play we stood outside the stage door and got several autographs.  A real New York experience.  As we were waiting for the actors to come out who should walk by but Neil Patrick Harris.  With a bodyguard of course.
