The year starts with family and good friends...

New Year's Eve found us celebrating at the lodge.  They decorated New York style...a beautiful skyline outlined in white lights.  We had a great dinner, visited with friends and danced.  The theme was New York and the celebration took place at midnight (NY time) which was actually 9 P.M. CA time.  As we get older, it is harder to stay up until midnight so this made it easier for a lot of people.  We stayed and danced and visited after the NY new year ball dropped.

New Year's Day found us driving down to Shelly's.  Before we left we watched the Rose Parade, hoping to see our friends Karen, Frank, Mark and Ilone who were attending the big event.  Never saw them on TV but we talked to them and they said it was amazing.  We had a wonderful time at Shelly's.  It was a very relaxing day.  We of course ate too much!  Julie kept Lucas for the day so we had to go by there and pick him up when we got back.  He didn't want to come home with us.  Guess he loves being with the kids and having a yard over living in an RV!

The storms finally arrive!  It's been a long time coming but we finally got some greatly needed rain.  The only problem was it came with such force that it caused all kinds of damage.  The winds were gusting at over 60 miles per hour.  There was all kinds of flooding but luckily we didn't have any by us.  The storm made lots of work for Skip around the lodge.  He thrives on this kind of thing.  During the storm he was out picking up branches and providing places for the water to run off.  My contribution was to make soup and occassionally walk the dog.

Friends arrive.  Our friends, Mark and Ilone arrived from Michigan via Southern California.  Of course, when they arrived it was pouring down rain.  We visited for some time and then they got their rig setup.  After they were all settled we went out to The Texas Roadhouse for dinner.  Monday we took a trip to San Francisco.  It was the norm for SF with cool temps and sunshine.  We walked around the wharf, ate sourdough bread, ate ice cream at Ghirardelli's, rode the cable cars, ate lunch at Alioto's, drove down Lombard Street and drove across the Golden Gate Bridge.  It was a full day.

Happy Birthday, Ryne!!

Since I last wrote we have been very busy seeing some of the sights in the area.  One day we drove up to Jackson where we walked the downtown and did a little shopping at a local cookware store.  We went to the Railroad Museum in Sacramento.  One evening we went to see the movie Bucket List.  It was a very good but an emotional movie.  We drove to Hollister and stopped in to see Shelly for a couple very, very brief minutes.  Next we stopped at the Cozy Cup for breakfast.  I couldn't resist getting one of their scramble breakfasts that has everything but the kitchen sink in it!  Next we drove 10 miles to San Juan Batistua where we toured the grounds and the mission.

Once that was finished we headed over the stage coach road towards Salinas.  The view was spectacular as usual.  Doesn't matter how many times I travel this road I'm always awed by the beauty of the land.  Monterey was our destination.  It was sunny but windy and COLD!  We drove the 17 mile drive and stopped many times to take pictures.  Of course, we did take a couple pictures of the Lone Cypress.  Next we stopped by the wharf where we photgraphed sea lions, pelguins, boats, sea otters, etc.  We did take time out to eat ice cream at Ghiradelli's...again!
