TUMBLEWEED III TRAVELS

Graduations and beyond...

Congratulations to Paige and Brandon!!!  Graduating from high school with honors.  They're off to college in CA and IL in the fall.  I didn't get too many pictures.  We were sitting in the bleachers at Paige's graduation and although the view was great, I didn't get close up pictures.  At Brandon's we were seated on the grass but I could walk around and take pictures.  The disadvantage to that was all the other people who were doing the same thing kept getting in my way and they were taller.  Luckily, the parents took some good pictures and have shared them with us.

We met Shelly and Doug for breakfast on the 6th and Chuck surprised them.  They thought he went on vacation to see a Cardinals game but instead he came to CA.  Ryne made us dinner that evening...a Chef in the making?!  Sunday we traveled back up north to Jackson where we stayed at the Jackson casino RV park.  Monday we went back home and Chuck and Sue went with Julie and Paige to San Francisco.  Paige was competing for a $10,000 scholarship from Beach Blanket Babylon.  While she was at practice we walked around the City.  Eating lunch in Chinatown at a restaurant named Brandy Ho. It was really good.   We then went to a Chinese bakery where Julie bought some cocktail rolls and Sue bought a loaf of sweet bread.  Wade, Brett and her boyfriend Will joined us around 4.  We did some more walking around.  Our stops included a stop for a slice of pizza for those who hadn't eaten, a candy store to buy fudge and finally a gelato shop.  Now, it was time to head to the Beach Blanket Babylon Theater.  Paige performed an awesome tap dance.  She was competing against two other dancers.  Hundreds of dancers throughout California had submitted their tapes for consideration to compete for the scholarship and only 3 were chosen.  She did not win the scholarship but she won the hearts of those in attendance.  Rita Moreno came over to her after the competition was over and told her what a wonderful job she had done and never to give up dance.  Paige had her picture taken with Rita.

The rest of the week was spent relaxing and visiting.  Chuck and Skip spent a day in Sacramento.  Chuck stayed overnight with friends.  A visit to CA wouldn't be complete without a trip to Ghiradelli for hot fudge sundae.  One night, Julie made pizza from scratch for the family.  Friday, found Chuck and Sue heading to San Jose to watch Brandon swim at the Santa Clara Swim Club in an International Swim meet.  About 5 minutes after we arrived, Michael Phelps swam in a race.  Yes, he won the heat.  Brandon swam an awesome race and came in 2nd in his heat.  Brandon was fantastic to watch and Michael was ok too. No, Brandon did not swim against Michael Phelps. On Saturday, Chuck, Skip, Sue and puppy Oliver all went to San Francisco.  It was a perfect day in the City.  We walked around and of course bought sourdough bread at Boudin.  Sunday was a travel day for all of us...Chuck flying out of SJ and us taking the RV up to Oregon.

We are now in Oregon and enjoying visiting with our friends.  Oliver has discovered deer and jackrabbits.  We should be here for 3 1/2 weeks.
