Life after New York...

I'm still trying to get all the July trip to New York stuff on the website.  Suddenly it's August and I needed to let you know where we are and what we are doing.  I will continue to update the website with my New York stories and pictures as time permits.

First thing...Happy Birthday, Mark!!!

We traveled up to Oregon for a much needed vacation.  Just joking!  Every day is a vacation for us. About 40 miles before our destination, we had a little problem with the motorhome.  Seems we had a bad seal on the back tire and oil was flying out all over the place.  We dry camped and the next day found a repairperson.  We had a bad seal, needed to have the brake pads replaced because of all the oil and the wheel bearings were bad.  $900 later we were back on the road.   We love Oregon and are always anxious to spend some time up here with friends.  Lucas is enjoying barking at all the wildlife and getting spoiled by Mel and LaVere.  Skip has been helping put in a drainage system in the park.  I have been picking and freezing blackberries.  My projects while we are here are:  to finish my New York scrapbook and finish updating the website; make some blackberry jelly; finish my knitting project so I can start a new one; sew a top for myself; read the book Woman In Charge.  After that I can relax for a little while.

Lucas really wants to catch these for dinner

My midwest upbringing is in full swing!!  We have picked lots and lots of wild blackberries.  I canned jelly and jam.  Then we went out to the "U Pick" farm and picked sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches and beets. I made a peach and blueberry cobbler.  The corn was so good and so sweet that we went back out and picked 2 dozen ears which I blanched, cut off the cob and froze.  We also picked more peaches and as I write this there is a fresh peach pie in the oven.  I have a "Blue" ribbon for pie baking that I earned in 1962 that I keep on display in my kitchen just to remind myself that "I CAN DO IT"!!!  The New York scrapbook is completed.  Yeah!

The end of August is closing in on us and soon we will be returning home to CA.  The grandchildren are back in school and Ryne will soon be starting college.  I still have a few projects to finish before we leave here but when you are retired you have nothing but time.  If I don't do it today hopefully there will be a tomorrow to do it.

8/29/2007   We are leaving today and going back home to CA.  It's hard to believe we stayed here for over a month.  We will be missing out on the apples but we can get some in CA.  Thought about making some applesauce but don't know for sure that is what I will do.  Skip is starting to refer to me as "Lucy"!  In the classic movie, The Long Long Trailer Lucy did lots of canning that added a lot of weight to the trailer.  This made it hard to get over the mountain, so Ricky pulled over and threw lots of her "stuff" out.  I'll let you know how the trip back to CA goes!

There  is a retirement meeting/lunch next week where I will get a chance to see many of my friends.
