Busy, busy, busy...

We arrived back home after a very, very wet stay in Oregon!  Paige and Wade had Birthdays in December.  We scheduled our dental appointments.  One of Sue's favorite things to do!!!  Skip had a couple trips to the doctor.  Had his retched knee checked again but was told to wear his brace.  After a few weeks of pain he found a thorn under the skin.  He still gets some aches and pains of old age but the other pain in his knee was being caused by the thorn.  Go figure!  Now he is wearing a brace on his left hand because he did some damage when he turned over a sleeping dog on the bed.  Never a dull moment in this house.

Being home for Christmas was nice.  The grandkids have all grown so fast.  Hard to believe that 3 of them are in high school.  Ryne graduates in June.  Made them all stand still for a photo op.  Since we were just sitting around we decided to get seasonal jobs at the local mall.  Pushed sausage and cheese for a well known company.  It was fun.  We met a lot of interesting people.  We didn't have to work on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day but we did work on New Years Day.  So we were in bed by 11 pm.  Christmas Eve found us at Julie's eating snack food and playing games.  Christmas morning we were back for a breakfast that Julie and Wade made.  Then it was time to open presents.  Chuck had come down from Sacramento on Christmas Eve afternoon.  Shelly, Doug and children came up from Hollister on Christmas Day.  Chuck, Shelly and family all stayed overnight at Julie's. Shelly's children had swim practice the day after Christmas and we had to work.  We stayed another week and then headed south to Las Vegas.  It was so nice to see Mark and Marisa and the pups.  Everyone looks great.  Skip managed to lose both of our prescription eyeglasses.  We had left the motorhome to have the oil changed and Lucas was in the front seat of the car so Skip moved him to the back seat.  Lucas has his driver's permit but we don't like him driving in heavy traffic!  Anyway when Skip was moving the dog he put the glasses on top of the car...and you know the rest of the story.  Somewhere on Boulder Highway in Vegas our glasses fell off and were eaten by the street sweeper.  Skip luckily had his old pair but I am currently using store bought glasses from Wal--mart.  We plan on leaving here and heading to Arizona try to get warm.  It was 27 degrees this morning (1/13 Sat.)!!

We did some minor maintenenance on the RV.  Water leak under the kitchen sink.  Of course it took much longer than expected so we got a late start leaving on the 15th.  Drove to Parker, AZ where we stayed at the Elks lodge.  Next day we drove down to Yuma where we are visiting friends.  Sue has found the local mall.  The weather should be warming up to the mid 60's today.

Ryne turned 18!!!

Skip in San Luis, Mexico

We have been busy eating our way through Yuma!!!  Lots of good food down here.  We went to the citrus orchards one day and picked grapefruit.  The next day we drove down to Mexico.  Skip misunderstood the directions and drove to San Luis instead of Los Algodones.  San Luis is not the best place to go in Mexico but it was still interesting.  Once we got back to Yuma we discovered that there is lots of crime in San Luis.  Skip did have us walk through some of the back streets but I became uncomfortable so we went back to the main street.  Only saw 6 other Americans while we were there.  Didn't buy one thing.  May go to Los Algodones before we leave the area.

Today is Sunday, January 21st.  I finally downloaded my pictures from the camera so I will add a few today.  Forgot to mention that we drove through Quartzite, AZ where hundreds of thousands of RVers settle in for a couple weeks in mid-January.  We have been in Yuma visiting Mel and LaVere for a week now and every minute has been full.  They have a lady who comes to their home and sells homemade tamales.  LaVere had given me a couple a day or so ago and they were so good.  When she came around on Saturday I just had to buy some.  Skip has never liked tamales but I talked him into trying these.  Big mistake!!  He loved them and ate 2 for lunch.  That will teach me.  Saturday we traveled to Algodones, Mexico.  There were lots of vendors and street performers.  I tried to get a good picture of the one preformer but he would only let people take his picture if you paid him.  We didn't eat or drink in Mexico but we did buy a couple silver chains.  In order to go through customs to return to the good old USA you need to stand in this huge line.  When we were in San Luis it took us 30 minutes and this line was 3 times as long.  Lots of Americans go to Algodones to buy medicine, get dental work done and buy alcohol.  When we got in line they announced if you had a passport or green card you could come to the front of the line and enter the door on the right.  We hurried up there with 4 other people and our wait was cut from a possible 1 1/2 hours to 5 minutes.  This morning I baked a cherry pie and we are going out with Mel, LaVere, Lou and Matt for breakfast.  Then we will be watching the Bears game.

Mel, LaVere & Lucas

After a wonderful week in Yuma we left and headed to the Phoenix area.  It was wonderful in Yuma and we can't wait to return.  Thanks again Mel and LaVere.  the trip to Phoenix was luckily uneventful.  The first night we stayed at the Flying J truck stop.  The next morning Skip took off and went looking for the local Elks Lodge.  He found us a space at the Tempe Lodge where we have been ever since.  While he was out finding us a place to park the RV, I finished knitting a baby hat and started an adult hat.  We traveled out to Shiprock RV park in Apache Junction and viisted with Moe, Karen, Frank, Ron, Mary and Norma.  We also stopped by the Flea Market and saw Bridget.  Sue did break down and buy one more piece of jewelry.  We went out to lunch one day with Ron and Mary.  Friends Mark and Ilona from Michigan arrived at the Elks Lodge in Tempe a few days after us.  We have just been relaxing.  Lucas had a vet visit (yearly kennel cough shot) and Sue has an eye exam scheduled.  Need to replace those glasses that were lost in Las Vegas.  The weather has been mild and a little rain the last couple days.  Hard to believe that it's already the end of January.
